Grounding: Voices

Board Member / Fukuoka Studio Manager

Satoshi Takaki

What is special about the Fukuoka Studio?

I think everyone here has a shared goal and vision. We have a flat management structure, so there isn't this strict vertical hierarchy that you get in some studios. Here we have a lot of artists and people that care about how things look. We have people from the visual arts and other staff members that used to work in film, working alongside game designers and programmers and that is an interesting HR mix that makes the Fukuoka Studio quite unique in my experience.

What type of person are you looking for to join your team?

Someone that knows who they are. Someone that can stick to their guns and not be swayed by the crowd. Someone that wants to make something special and will not deviate from their path, regardless of how challenging it gets. I do not care about age or experience; I believe in giving people chances to prove themselves. Experience and technology is important in game development, but what I am looking for is someone that can create new values and see things from a variety of perspectives. It would be great to have someone that can take the lead in creating a game for young people, with the sensitivity and awareness that such a project requires.

Positives about working at Grounding

All of the studios at Grounding have good relationships and the feeling is fresh and invigorating in each of our locations. It is a company that feels like it is going places, and you can tell that from the atmosphere in the studio. Maybe we get on too well - no-one ever seems to quit once they join!

What is a typical Grounding person like?

Calm and always friendly with a smile. As our approach is quite liberal, our team is full of people that can just get on with their work without being told what to do.
