Grounding: Voices

UI Designer

Yu Odawara

What does a UI Designer do?

I showed a friend of mine a smartphone app and I explained that what I do us to try to design the screen - the User Interface (UI) - or what the user sees in a way that makes the game world easy to understand. How can I make this as simple and easy for the users to take the next step in the game? What would be the most natural way of communicating this? I think I always need to be thinking of how can I make this easy for the user to understand and move forward in the game.

What are your future plans at Grounding?

I am still growing and learning in the job. Once I have more experience under my belt, I think I can consider what my next step will be. At some point in time I would like to be an art director but that's a ways off in the future.

Positives about working at Grounding

We all get along here. People don't feel tied down at all. It feels friendly and comfortable, just like home. It's very free and your time is yours to use as you see fit. In some studios you might feel guilty if you are going home before other people, but that is not the case here. We don't have any tension between staff and no-one gets angry and shouts, which is really great :)

If Grounding was a person, what would they be like?

Someone who knows who they are - sort of like a young, hip dude!
